This may not be directly related, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
In the early 2000s, most DAWs had an issue where MIDI notes placed at the very left bar or overlapping with the play-bar during playback would not produce sound.
Because of this, people often left the first measure empty and started their songs from the second measure. 
Perhaps due to that habit, I still start my songs from the second measure even now.
